Hello, hello! As an outlet for my excitement about my upcoming trip to Italy, I’ve compiled a little pasta post for today. The following recipes are not exclusively Italian, but they all look delicious nonetheless. Click on the images for full recipes, original links, and copyright information:

fusilli. extra virgin olive oil. ripe and sundried tomatoes. olives. fresh mozzarella.

spaghetti. pancetta. eggs. finely chopped garlic. minced parsley. romano and parmesan cheese. freshly ground pepper.

vermicelli. extra virgin olive oil. garlic, parsley, onion. green olives. capers.

ricotta gnocchi. italian sausage. roasted red pepper pesto. garnish with basil and parmesan.

baked rigatoni. havarti. bolognese sauce. zucchini.
risotto. sweet onion. crimini mushrooms. white wine. parmesan.
Mmmm. Hope everyone’s having a happy middle-of-the-week!

The military jacket above from Obakki caught my eye last night and I was pleased to discover that the rest of the menswear line features the same casual elegance. I love how the international design house has created strong, distinctly masculine silhouettes that maintain a perfect blend of ruggedness and refinement. Check out a few of my other favorites below:

cardigan, double-layer cardigan, jacket

Underwear as outerwear is slated as a big trend for this winter and well into next year: slinky camisole-like dresses, a slip of exposed lace here and there, bustier detailing, and so on. The point is not to blatantly flaunt your sexy little things in public, but rather, to wear lingerie-inspired items or actual lingerie that is disguised as something else.
Exposed thigh-highs are perhaps the most difficult look to pull off in this category. They are not particularly flattering on most people (we don’t all look like the model from French Vogue above.) They’re also so unabashedly sexy that it’s difficult to walk to the line between provocative and cheap. I think that the key is either keeping the rest of your look casual, or wearing a dress that is just long enough to skim the top of your thigh-highs. Below are a few shots of inspiration, and some tights and socks that I’m into:

Lindsay Lohan, anonymous, Taylor Momsen (all images via Fashionising)

merino wool socks, zig-zag socks, striped-band opaque tights

back seamed tights, peacock embroidery tights, sheer nylon tights

It’s Friday, hurrah! Today’s post is full of food porn, in honor of Vida: my dear friend, fellow gastronome, and first reader. My little Vida-Margarita, I know you’ll have a blast celebrating both your birthday and one-year anniversary this weekend. Happy birthday/congratulations/love you bunches!
Anyways, here are a few of my yummiest-looking finds from this past week:

sweet potato gnocchi. brussel sprouts. walnuts.

Luxirare’s bento box. Please do yourself a favor and click the images- you will be amazed.

loaded baked potato: bacon, cheddar, green onions.

fresh basil. roma tomatoes. mozzarella.

seared filet. smokey white beans. fried kale. roasted red pepper sauce.

triple chocolate cake with chocolate praline frosting (this one’s for you, Vida)
Have a lovely weekend!

Ah, I can’t get over Ami Sioux’s book, Paris. She asked fifty people to draw a map to their favorite place in the city, then she followed the maps and photographed the sites. The hand-sketched maps are quirky and fun; Sioux’s shots are beautiful.
I may actually be headed to the City of Light next year for a few months! If I end up going, I will certainly be snagging a copy of this gem from colette. Check out a few more pages below:

Personally, I’d draw a map to coffee and an almond croissant at Fauchon in the 8th arrondissement. Have a happy almost-Friday!

Hello, hello! As yesterday was the first day of autumn, I thought it was only appropriate to do a post on leggings and tights. There are so many fun patterns and embellishments that I can’t wait to play around with this fall. Although they’re huge right now, you won’t find any ripped or slashed tights below- I physically can’t bring myself to wear them. I’m not really into the “my legs were ran over by a lawnmower” look, ya dig? Check out a few styles that I much prefer:

zig-zag patterned tights, two-toned tights, buttoned leggings

motorcycle leggings, studded leggings, zipper legging
My favorites are the motorcycle leggings (click on the image or link for a detailed image) and the two-toned tights. Thoughts?

Last week in New York marked the beginning of the “big four” exhibitions of Spring/Summer 2010 collections. London Fashion Week is currently at full swing; Milan and Paris are to follow. Luckily for those of us who aren’t in attendance, Scott Schuman (of The Sartorialist fame) is ready to capture the beautiful people who flood the streets during all four Fashion Weeks. Below are a few of my favorite shots (click the images to see them in full size):

Happy Monday, my dears! I posted exclusively about fashion last week in honor of NYFW, so I wanted to switch it up a bit today. I stumbled upon the Crosby Street Hotel while I was looking into hotels for an upcoming trip across the pond. The hotel, which is nestled on a “quiet cobblestone street” in SoHo, is the newest and first American endeavor of the London-based Firmdale Hotels.
I love the vibrant colors, varied textures, and generally cheerful vibe of Kit Kemp’s interior design. The hotel’s elegantly playful decor is luxurious but avoids coming off as pretentious. Wouldn’t this whimsical hideaway be the perfect relief from the hustle and bustle of the city? Although it won’t be opening until September 29, online reservations are now available. Fashion Week has wound to a close in New York! Here are my favorite images from this year’s runways (I know there’s a ton, but there was a lot to love:)

All of these images are from my favorite shows of the week: Alexander Wang, Doo.Ri, Milly, Donna Karan, Nanette Lepore, and Sophie Theallat. Have a happy weekend!

Hello, hello! For today’s post, I’ve decided to venture away from my usual material and into new territory: menswear. I know that the vast majority of you are female, but we all have men in our lives who could use a style revolution. Think Ryan Reynolds pre-and-post Scarlett Johansson, David Beckham pre-and-post Victoria, and Daniel Radcliffe (aka Harry Potter) pre-and-post puberty. Even the best-dressed men could do with a few tweaks now and then.
In a world dominated by t-shirts, sweatpants, and gym shorts, it’s refreshing to come across a man who cares about looking good. Tom Ford is one such man (to say the least,) and in a recent interview with Holt Renfrew, he noted:
Every man should posess a sense of humor, a daily read of the newspaper, a sport he loves and is good at, good manners, a nail clipper, tweezers, a good toothbrush, comb and hairbrush and a good cologne that becomes a signature.
Amen. If I had to add one thing, it would be a well-tailored blazer (and suit, and sportcoat…but hey, that’s three things.) Dressed up or down, I think that they make men look sharp, fresh, and, well, dashing. Here are a few of my favorite ways to see them styled:
1. blazer + washed cotton shirt + denim + loafers

casual blazer, shirt, skull and bones tie, belt, distressed jeans, leather slip-ons
2. sportcoat + graphic t-shirt + dark denim + sneakers

sportcoat, graphic tee, dark denim, sweet kicks
3. blazer + round-collar basic tee + scarf + denim + loafers

sport jacket, jersey tee, frayed edge scarf, slim-cut dark denim, perforated suede-and-leather sneakers
4. suit + narrow-collar dress shirt + narrow tie

suit, narrow-collar dress shirt, narrow silk tie, patent leather balmoral
