“i like too many things and get all confused and hung-up running from one falling star to another till i drop. this is the night, what it does to you . . .”
on the road is so full of lovely quotes. photos by yours truly.
what better way to spend a quiet sunday night than bellinis and birthday celebrations at kong?
perched at the top of the LVMH building, this so-trendy-it-hurts restaurant lived up to my expectations. apparently it made an appearance in the last episode of sex and the city; according to someone at my table, it’s smaller than it looked on the show. i’ve never really gotten into satc so i can’t confirm, but i liked the intimate feel of the small-ish space. other highlights included the kitschy philippe starck decor, my amazing dessert (a pear and puff pastry confection with caramel whipped cream,) and the glass ceiling that allowed for gorgeous panoramic views. reservations can get tricky thursday through saturday, but the sunday-night ambiance was positively peaceful.
as i’m sure most of you have heard, a volcano in iceland that erupted on thursday has made an absolute mess of european air traffic. like thousands of other people in northern europe, i’ve been affected by the “ash attack”– NYTimes term, as if i could have come up with that. my family’s much-anticipated arrival in paris on saturday was prevented by the cancellation of their flight, and my plans to jet off to barcelona and ibiza next week are now uncertain. at this point, all i can really do is laugh at the volcano’s name (Eyjafjallajokull, pronounced “AYA-feeyapla-yurkul”…obviously,) and marvel at how photogenic the thing is . . .
burn, burn, burn, like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars . . .
