thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays of the year- what’s not to love about a day that is centered around food? here are unique translations of a few classic dishes, like . . .
turkey (here, roasted with black truffle butter and white-wine gravy)
stuffing (with chestnuts, celery, apples, and leeks)
cranberry sauce (try this cranberry, quince, and pearl onion compote instead)
mashed potatoes (or a parsnip purée with sautéed brussels sprouts leaves)
sweet potatoes (roasted sweet potato rounds with garlic and fried sage)
pumpkin pie (spiced pumpkin souflé with bourbon molasses sauce)

yes, it’s the middle of november, but the debut of starbucks’ red holiday cups mean that the holidays are coming! for me, this means snuggling forever under cozy blankets, thick-gloved fingers on ski lifts, sparkling lights, and, of course, candy canes . . .
. . . like peppermint bark sprinkled on vanilla buttercream-frosted dark chocolate cupcakes . . .
. . . light-as-air pâte à choux pastries with peppermint whipped cream and a peppermint fudge sauce . . .
. . . peppermint marshmallows for plopping into giant mugs of hot cocoa . . .
. . . refreshing mint ganache sandwiched in silky, rich fudge . . .
. . . and sugar cookie wafers dipped in milk chocolate and sprinkled with crushed candy.
