Keep Calm & Carry On

Underwear as outerwear is slated as a big trend for this winter and well into next year: slinky camisole-like dresses, a slip of exposed lace here and there, bustier detailing, and so on. The point is not to blatantly flaunt your sexy little things in public, but rather, to wear lingerie-inspired items or actual lingerie that is disguised as something else.

Exposed thigh-highs are perhaps the most difficult look to pull off in this category. They are not particularly flattering on most people (we don’t all look like the model from French Vogue above.) They’re also so unabashedly sexy that it’s difficult to walk to the line between provocative and cheap. I think that the key is either keeping the rest of your look casual, or wearing a dress that is just long enough to skim the top of your thigh-highs. Below are a few shots of inspiration, and some tights and socks that I’m into:
